Ed Smith spoke with Pamela Reed-Sanchez, the CEO and President of the Seneca Park Zoo Society.
-Pamela talked about construction and some of the new displays that will be featured in the main entrance area.
-She said that the Zoo is now part of the Museums for All program which allows people with EBT or SNAP to get into the zoo for just $1. The idea is to create access for more people in the community.
-She explained that the Monroe County Legislature would like them to continue to expand access for minority groups or underserved groups in the community.
-They have a special event planned for the deaf community and a bi-lingual nature walk coming up.
-Pamela talked about benefits of Zoo camps and how students continue to stay involved with the zoo and become counselors and volunteers as they get older
-She talked about Zoon Teens being back on site after a hiatus with Covid. They are there to connect with younger guests at the zoo and provide information.
-Something new is their Nature Cart, offering information about Urban wildlife, waterlife assessment and other various topics
-Their community outreach, animal ambassador programs are now back to pre-pandemic levels as they continue to make the zoo and animal education more accessible
-Zoobrew event coming up Friday, money raised goes to the elephant conservation, since they started this event they have raised over $60,0000 for elephant conservation
-Jungle Jog this Sunday, still an opportunity to register and runners actually get to run through the zoo
