The world lost a comedy legend and iconic TV dad yesterday – Bob Saget died at the age of 65. While he’s best known as Danny Tanner on Full House, he also appeared in the Netflix spin-off Fuller House, as the narrator on How I Met Your Mother, and origical host of America’s Funniest Home Videos. While he was the first choice to play Danny Tanner, he wasn’t able to accept the role because he was a member of The Morning Program on CBS. Another actor, John Posey, was cast in the role, but only appeared in the unaired pilot episode. When Saget was fired from The Morning Program, he joined the cast and the pilot was re-shot for broadcast in 1987. He began hosting America’s Funniest Home Videos in 1989. It was originally just supposed to be a one-off special, but it ended up being a hit, and ABC turned it into a weekly series. So during the early 1990s, Saget worked on both shows simultaneously. Saget also did a lot of charity work and was a board member of the Scleroderma Research Foundation. Learn more here.
