January 27, 2022 – The Goonies

It’s Throwback Thursday, and today we’re featuring the year 1985. One of the biggest movies released that year was The Goonies! The movie tells the story of a group of friends who live in the “Goon Docks” in Astoria, Oregon. While trying to save their homes from foreclosure, they stumble upon a treasure map that takes them on an adventure to find the hidden fortune of a legendary pirate, One-Eyed Willy. The movie was released on June 7, 1985 and grossed $125 million worldwide. It was the first movie for both Sean Astin and Josh Brolin, who played brothers Mikey and Brand Walsh. The actor who played Sloth, John Matuszak, was a Super Bowl-winning football player before turning to acting, and it took around 5 hours to get him into his makeup every day! There have been a lot of rumors of sequels over the years, though nothing has ever come to fruition.
