February 28, 2022 – M*A*S*H Finale

If you owned a TV on February 28, 1983, chances were you were watching the final episode of M*A*S*H! The 2 1/2 hour episode titled “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” was watched by nearly 106 million viewers – 77% of the TV viewing audience. It was the most watched TV broadcast in American history, surpassed only by the Super Bowl in 2010. It still holds the record for most-watched finale of any TV series, as well as the most-watched episode. The episode was written by 8 collaborators, including Alan Alda, who also directed it. He actually co-wrote 13 and directed 31 episodes over the 11 season run. He was the first to win an Emmy award for acting, directing, and writing on the same show. Learn more here.
