April 11, 2022 – IT’S A THEME WEEK!

Easter is right around the corner – next weekend, actually! So this week, we’re doing an Easter theme week on the Wiki!
We’re starting the week off with a classic Easter candy – Peeps! Peeps are made by Just Born in Bethlehem, PA. They acquired the Rodda Candy Company in 1953, along with its line of marshmallow chicks. Originally, every chick was handmade, and took 27 hours to make! But Just Born automated the process, and it now takes just 6 minutes to make a Peep. Every day, around 5.5 million Peeps are made at the Just Born factory.
In 1999, two scientists from Emory University decided to test the theory that Peeps are indestructible. Calling themselves “Peeps Investigators”, the pair performed experiments to see how easily Peeps could be dissolved, burned, or disintigrated. They used microwaves, cigarette smoke, boiling water, acetone, and liquid nitrogen – and Peeps survived them all! The only thing that worked to destroy the Peeps was Phenol – and even then, the Peeps’ eyes didn’t disappear.
Today, Peeps are available year-round in a variety of shapes, colors, and flavors. The top-selling Peep is the original yellow chick, followed by yellow bunnies. More than 1.5 Peeps are eaten each spring, making them the most popular non-chocolate Easter candy. Learn more here.
