May 18, 2022 – UFOs

Yesterday, Congress held the first public hearing on UFOs in more than 50 years. Unusually sightings of unidentified objects in the sky have been reported throughout history. But UFOs didn’t come into their current cultural prominence until after WWII. The Air Force coined the term “UFO” in 1953. And in case you’re wondering, the official terminology for an alien is an ETB or extraterrestrial being. A recently released government report used UAP (unidentified aerial phenomenon) instead of UFO.
The UFO craze really got started in 1947, with a media frenzy around reports that a pilot had seen 9 objects flying in formation near Mount Rainier. He described the objects as flying in a saucer-like fashion, and this led to newspaper accounts of “flying saucers”. Reports of flying saucer sightings quickly became a daily occurrence.
UFO research increased after WWII, with the Air Force forming several task forces to investigate the sightings. Many studies have shown that most UFOs can be explained as ordinary objects or phenomena. Some commonly identified sources of UFO reports include drones, bright stars or planets, aircraft, balloons, and certain cloud formations. Learn more here.
