Happy Throwback Thursday! Today we’re featuring the year 1987 – that’s the year that Married…With Children premiered! It was the first primetime show on the then-new Fox network. It ran from April 1987 through June 1997, making it one of the longest running sitcoms in TV history. Ed O’Neil was asked to audition for the part of Al after a Fox executive saw him performing in the play Of Mice and Men. He won the part because he took a deep breath and slumped his shoulders before walking through the front door, which is something no other actor did. Though it was very popular, the show was never a big rating success, partly because Fox didn’t have the number of affiliates the other big networks did, so it wasn’t broadcast to the entire country.
