Ed Smith spoke with Karyn Rando, Director of Counseling Operations at Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Rochester.
-She explained that they are a Rochester non-profit that is focused on the financial wellness of families and individuals by providing them with a certified professional for confidential counseling, education, and other solutions to meet their financial goals. They provide this service at no cost to the family or individual.
-They have a debt management program, working with people to consolidate their debt and working with a variety of lenders to help folks get on a payment plan that is manageable.
-They offer credit and budget counseling
-CCCSR provides education and assistance to people who are looking to buy a home for the first time
-They provide all sorts of financial education workshops and online training programs
-They do community outreach, where they go to employers or other organizations in Rochester to talk with people about the importance of having a financial plan and how they can help provide a solution to paying off debt
-Karyn talked about how they have seen an increase in the number of people coming to them for help because of inflation and rising interest rates
-She said they are also prepared to help students and families with college loan questions and payment plans once the legality of the student debt forgiveness program is determined.
