April 10, 2023 – Oscar Mayer Wienermobile

The Wienermobile of Love is rolling into Las Vegas this weekend! Today, Oscar Mayer announced that on April 15 & 16, their iconic Wienermobile will be transformed into a limited-time chapel for couples to get married. It’ll be parked right next to the Little White Chapel, and ceremonies will be officiated by the company’s own Hotdoggers (the folks who drive the Wienermobile all over the country). Interested couples can register for the opportunity of a lifetime on the Oscar Mayer website.
The Wienermobile has been traveling America for more than 80 years. It was all the idea of Oscar Mayer’s nephew, Carl Mayer, who pitched the idea in of a 13-foot metal hotdog on wheels in 1936. The first Wienermobile had open cockpits in the center and rear and became a common sight on the streets of Chicago. The Wienermobile was scrapped during World War II due to gas shortages, but made its triumphant return in 1952 with 5 new vehicles hitting the road. These 22-foot long franks were the first to have a sound system, and you can see one in the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. The Wienermobiles were again retired from service in the late 1970s. But when it was brought out for a 50th birthday celebration in 1986, it was hugely popular, so the company decided to build a new fleet and start touring the country again in 1988. There are currently 6 Wienermobiles, driven by Hotdoggers, who meet and greet folks all over America. Hotdoggers are college seniors who are about to graduate, and their assignment is just for one year. Oscar Mayer reportedly receives upward of 1500 applications a year for the 12 open positions.
