Ed Smith spoke with Holly Dutcher, Executive Director of C.U.R.E. Childhood Cancer Association.
-She talked about their mission to provide emotional, social and financial support to families that have children with cancer
-They provide this assistance to families in our community that are receiving treatment locally and traveling out of the area for treatment. They also support families coming to Rochester for medical treatment.
-She talked about the parent advocacy program which gives parents support and help at the hospital
-They have an educational assistance program that helps families get kids with cancer evaluated for additional support and help at school.
-September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Holly talked about ways they are trying to draw attention and get support for families that have children with cancer
-She talked about how some families end up volunteering for the organization because of the connections and friendship they make while receiving support
-She gave details on some fundraising events they have, including one that is called Challenge Liquid Gold for CURE. This incorporates local businesses that make special food items this month to raise money and awareness.
-Holly also talked about how people could become volunteers and help with some of their upcoming holiday programs.
