Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester 10/1/23

Ed Smith interviewed Holly Anderson, the Executive Director and Mredith Utman, the Director of Special Events at the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester.
-Holly talked about the mission of the organization to help people with cancer connect with others dealing with cancer in various social settings, to educate people and to advocate for a cure
-Holly gave a status update on the organization. They just surpassed 1 million dollars awarded to research for a cure and better treatment for cancer.
-Holly also announced that she is retiring at the end of the year after 22 years as the Executive Director and that the board is currently conducting a search for a replacement
-Holly talked about how their Brown Bag program is doing well, this is a weekly lunch that allows those going through cancer treatment and survivors to get together. They are seeing a mix of people coming in person and connecting virtually.
-They just started a gynecology specific support group.
-Meredith talked about how all the services and programs they offer to the community are at no cost thanks to generous donors and fundraising events
-Meredith and Holly talked about some individuals and groups that fundraise for the organization
-They talked about how important it is to know where your money is going when you make a donation and how BCCR is totally independent so all of the money raised stays local. They are also very transparent putting their tax information on their website.
-Merdith gave details on their upcoming Actober event at Comedy at the Carlson
-They encourage people to buy tickets or try to support the event with a donation
-They talked about the ongoing need for volunteers and how people can get involved
