The team was founded in 1899 and is the oldest continuously operating sports franchise in North America below the major league level. The Red Wings have been affiliated with 4 Major League Baseball teams – the St. Louis Cardinals for 32 years, the Baltimore Orioles for 42 years, the Minnesota Twins for 18 years, and they’ve been affiliated with the Nationals since 2021. The Red Wings are also one of 2 American professional sports franchises that are publicly owned (the other is the Green Bay Packers). The Red Wings and the Pawtucket Red Sox have the record for the longest professional baseball game, lasting 33 innings and 8 hours, 25 minutes over the course of 3 days in June 1981. Learn more here.
