In honor of Easter being this Sunday, today we’re talking about some interesting Easter traditions from around the world. Did you know in Australia, they have Easter bilbies instead of Easter bunnies? Bilbies are an endangered marsupial there, and at Easter, bilby-shaped chocolates and festive merchandise is sold to raise money and increase awareness of conservation efforts. In Sweden, their Easter traditions look more like our Halloween celebration! There, kids dress up as witches on Maundy Thursday or Holy Saturday, and go door to door for treats. The children often offer cards and other greetings and get a treat in return. In Norway, a contemporary Easter tradition is watching or reading murder mysteries! All the major TV channels run crime and detective shows, magazines print mystery stories, new detective novels are published, and even the milk cartons are printed with short mystery stories on the side! Find out more about these and other countries’ celebrations in the audio below.
