Mark Shuttleworth spoke with Dan Lyon, Fraud/Scams Program Manager at Lifespan in Rochester. The spoke about how prevalent phone scams have become. Dan advised listeners to always have their guard up when someone calls them and asks for personal information. He recommended hanging up and then initiating a call to the company or service provider themselves to inquire if what the caller said is true. This way, they know they are really speaking with someone from the right organization. Scammers can fake numbers on caller ID. Mark and Dan also spoke about the dangers of opening emails from strangers. Lifespan offers information and assistance for those who believe they have been scammed.
