January 26, 2022 – Australia

Happy Australia Day! This is the day when our friends down under mark the arrival of the First Fleet of British ships at Sydney Cove. Australia is the 6th largest country, and is also the oldest, flattest, and driest inhabited continent! It has one of the lowest population densities. While it’s around the same size as the U.S., its population is just 23 million, compared to our 313 million. There are 3 times as many sheep there as people! Australia is home to many diverse animals – 80% of which are unique to Australia. There are at least 755 species of reptile, which is more than any other country in the world, plus 17 of the world’s most poisonous snakes. Learn more here.
