Happy Throwback Thursday! This week our throwback year is 1988, and that’s the year America’s Most Wanted premiered on Fox. It’s the longest-running crime reality show in Fox’s history, and the show has contributed to the capture of more than 1,100 fugitives, including 17 on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted List. It first premiered on 7 Fox-owned and operated stations, and within 4 days of the first episode, they had their first capture. After the show premiered nationwide, it became the fledgling network’s first hit show. The show was cancelled in 1996, but only for a month and a half, thanks to the outcry by the public, law enforcement officials, and even 37 state governors. The show was revived in 2021 and is currently hosted by Elizabeth Vargas. Learn more here.
