Pirate Toy Fund 2/5/23

Ed Smith interviewed Otto Harnischfeger, the Executive Director of the Pirate Toy Fund.
-He talked about their mission and how they service Monroe County and surrounding counties by providing hospitals, law enforcement and a variety of agencies with toys, that they can provide to children
-Otto talked about how law enforcement in Monroe County uses the toys to de-escalate situations with children involved
-He talked about how they were able to bring back an annual toy giving event in downtown this year (it has been cancelled the last few years with the pandemic). This event provides toys to families that are in extreme poverty in the city.
-Otto said they are able to have toy drives again and 3rd parties are also able to have them again. Many times people will get a group of coworkers or friends together and organize a toy drive to support them
-He explained a big event they are doing on February 18th, trying to break a world record by having the biggest snowball fight. This event could bring 8,000 people to one location for family friendly activities.
-They are still looking for volunteers to help with the event
