Ed Smith spoke with Nancy Ragues, the Director of the Fairport Perinton Partnership and Deb Ross who is a member of the local Solar Eclipse Task Force.
-Nancy explained the mission of the Fairport Perinton Partnership and how they work with local businesses, nonprofits and government.
-She talked about how they have a handful of volunteers with a variety of talents that donate their time to assist local business owners and leaders and help them find solutions to a problem they might have.
Nancy explained the relationship that the Fairport Perinton Partnership has with the Merchants Association in Fairport, in particular how they work together on events in the village.
-She encouraged anyone who owns a business to join the Merchants Association or the chamber as a way to network with people.
-Deb talked about the solar eclipse coming up on April 8th, 2024 and the partial solar eclipse coming up on October 14th, 2023.
-She talked about the importance of having solar glasses for eye safety when observing an eclipse.
-Deb described the celestial mechanics that people will experience during an eclipse.
-Deb said there are a handful of posters that were designed by an artist, they showcase regions in this area and they are traveling to different locations in our area, right now they are at Stokoe Farms.
-Nancy said that the town of Perinton was selected by the Rochester Museum and Science Center to be an ambassador location on April 8h, 2024 with a telescope and professionals on hand to explain to the public how an eclipse works and how to view it properly
-The Fairport Perinton Partnership is planning on public information booths set up a few weeks before the eclipse on April 8th to give people the information they need to experience the eclipse
-Nancy sad they are looking for volunteers to help with various activities they are going on in Fairport and Perinton for the eclipse
-Nancy also talked about the Savor the Flavor fundraising event that the Fairport Rotary Club is doing in March and how they plan on working in elements of the eclipse into the event
