It was 46 years ago today that the Blues Brothers made their television debut on Saturday Night Live! Though both John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd were cast members on the show, the act didn’t originate on SNL. The Blues Brothers first appeared as the opening act for Steve Martin. They released their first album, Briefcase Full of Blues in 1978. Several more albums followed, along with The Blues Brothers movie in 1980. John Belushi died in 1982, but the Blues Brothers continued to perform with guest singers and other band members. They reformed in 1988 for a world tour and again in 1998 for the movie sequel Blues Brothers 2000. Learn more here.
